DESPERATE NAJIB PLAYS HIS LAST CARD: MAHATHIR’S BERSATU TO BE DE-REGISTERED WITHIN 30 DAYS IF IT FAILS TO COMPLY WITH ROS DEMANDS

The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has given Bersatu 30 days to respond to its queries and present the necessary documents – or face deregistration.

In a statement today, ROS said it had on Feb 28 sent a notice to Bersatu secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh.

ROS directory-general Surayati Ibrahim said the notice was issued following complaints by Bersatu members and therefore data is required to complete investigations.

Bersatu has been requested to present the meeting minutes and financial documents of party, including for the branch and division levels.

Surayati said that although the Societies Act 1996 had stipulated a seven-day time frame for a response, the ROS has extended the deadline to 30 days.

“Should Bersatu fail to hand over the information and documents requested in the notice under Section 14 (2) of the Act, the subsequent action to be taken under Section 14 (5) of the Act is to deregister Bersatu,” she said.

Bersatu, which was formed in 2016, has been facing troubles with the ROS over its annual general meeting that was held in December.

There were questions over how the national level meet was held before the branches and divisions could do so.

Last month, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin explained that Bersatu’s constitution had stipulated that branches only need to hold AGMs a year after they were formed.
