The Word Kafir In The Quran.

I just wanted to share this. Among the JAHIL the word kafir is a big deal.
Kafir (KUFFAR) is deemed to be a disbeliever of their religion.

First of all bear in mind that KAFIR is an Arabic word. It is NOT an original  Tamil word although Tamil Muslims use it to mean disbeliever as well. Neither is kafir an original Urdu word although Urdu speakers do use the word to mean disbeliever. Same applies here in Malaysia.

Its not that big a deal if the word KAFIR is used for people of other faiths.  But kafir becomes a great big fighting word if  it is used by the different sects against each other.

For example if the Shia call the Sunni kafir or vice versa.
Or pas-pis-pus called Umno kafir and vice versa.
Or when the salafis and wahhabis start calling ALL other Muslims kafir.
Then it becomes a big deal.
They start fighting each other.

They even have a term for it : TAKFIRI.
TAKFIRIs are people who go around calling others kaffir.
Believe me I have met hundreds of these satans.

I use the word kafir frequently too.
Because I think I understand its meaning better.
There is absolutely no "religious" connotation to the word kafir.

First here is some etymology of the word kafir from the Wikipedia.
Etymology means "the origin and history of words".

Etymology of Kafir :    The word kāfir is the active participle of the root K-F-R.
  • As a pre-Islamic term it described farmers burying seeds in the ground
  • Since farmers cover the seeds with soil while planting, the word kāfir implies a person who hides or covers.

Ideologically, it implies a person who hides or covers the truth

Poets personify the darkness of night as kâfir, perhaps as a survival of pre-Islamic religious or mythological usage.

The noun for disbelief, "blasphemy", "impiety" rather than the person who disbelieves, is kufr.

The Hebrew words "kipper" and "kofer" share the same root as "kafir" or K-F-R.

"Kipper" has many meanings including, to "deny", "atone for", "cover", "purge", "represent", or "transfer".

The last two meanings involve "kofer" that mean "ransom".

The French, English "covrir" and "cover" respectively, sound similar to 'kafir' / 'kuffar'.

Kafir means to cover over, to conceal, to hide something. To go against something. To turn something upside down. To overturn something. To make something topsy turvy.

The word kafir and its derivatives appear 525 times in the Quran.  That is a lot of times. I cannot go through all 525 here.

Here are some usages of derivatives of K-F-R (kafara) in the Quran that are quite interesting:

Surah 2:271

"If you disclose your charitable works, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you, and He will remove from you (YU KAFFIRU ANKUM)some of your misdeeds.  And Allah, is acquainted with what you do."

Note that the "He will remove.." refers to Allah.

So if you donate to charity but you want The Star and the New Straits Times to  carry a picture of that huge "mock cheque" you have donated  that is ok. Go ahead and seek the publicity. Gila glamour is ok for charity.

But if you donate to charity quietly and give your donations to the poor (directly) that is much better.  Allah will remove from you (YU KAFFIRU ANKUM) some of your wrongs.

Here the word KAFFIRU  is used to mean remove,  to cover over, to expunge, to overturn some of your wrongs.  KAFFIRU here does not mean disbeliever.

Surah 47:2

"And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them  (KAFFARA ANHUM) their misdeeds and amend their condition."

Again the word KAFFARA  here means to remove, to overturn, to expunge some of their wrongs.  It does not mean disbeliever.  Here is another one :

Surah 3:115

"And whatever good they do - never will it be removed from them (FA LAN YUKFAROOHU). And Allah is Knowing of the righteous."

What it means is that never stop doing good deeds because your good deeds will always stick to something.  Your good deeds will never be removed or expunged from you.  (FA LAN YUKFAROOHU).

YUKFAROOHU does not mean disbelief. It refers to removing, expunging or overturning something.

So what this means is that the kuffar or kafir with their psycho beards and their moron pronouncements have been going around causing havoc around the world - calling people kafirs.

Overturning common sense and fighting against all that is good.
These are the real kafir.

That is why their lives are NEVER SUCCESSFUL.
That is why EVERY SINGLE THING they do brings disaster.
That is why they are poor, violent, fighting, hating and cursing everything.
Because they go against everything, they turn everything upside down.
That is KAFIR - to go against things.

What does it mean for us?  The everyday, ordinary people?

Well the next time you see the traffic light turn red at a busy intersection, please stop and wait for the light to turn green again.  Do not go against a good system. Dont be a kafir.
