Honda Malaysia apologises for insensitive FB comment on Adib's death
Honda Malaysia has apologised for an insensitive Facebook posting on the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
The posting was by an employee of one of its dealers in Petaling Jaya.
"Honda Malaysia unreservedly apologises for the insensitive and thoughtless comment by (the person) employed at our dealer... on the sad passing of brave fireman Adib.
"Her comment is against the values of Honda and we do not condone such behaviour. We would like to emphasise Honda's firm stand of respect for all," it said in a statement today.
The employee has since been suspended and an internal investigation is underway.
Honda said it would also send a memo to its dealers to advise and train their associates "to have the right attitude."
Adib, 24, was part of the team that had been deployed in response to vehicles that were torched by rioters near the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya on Nov 26.
On reaching the scene, the police claimed that Adib was dragged out of his vehicle and beaten up, causing him to suffer several broken ribs and multiple organ injuries.
Police had arrested four suspects who were believed to have attacked Adib. They are currently out on bail.
Adib succumbed to his injuries last night.
Following his death, police have reclassified the case as murder. - Mkini
