ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor DAP member Mohammad Kamarul Ariffin Harris Fadzillah, who posted an insulting comment towards Tunku Mahkota Johor on Facebook, has resigned from his position in the Pontian Municipal Council.
State Local Government, Science and Technology Committee chairman Tan Hong Pin said the Mohammad Kamarul had tendered his resignation letter on Tuesday (Jan 8).
Tan, who is also Johor DAP secretary, said both the state government and Pontian Municipal Council had accepted his resignation.
He said Mohammad Kamarul had since apologised to the Johor royal family over his statement.
"He has apologised to Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim and resigned from his councillor post," Tan said.
When asked if Mohammad Kamarul would be brought before the DAP disciplinary board over his Facebook post, Tan said that the matter was already resolved following the latter's apology and resignation.
"Johor DAP will be holding a meeting at the end of this month to find a new candidate to replace Mohammad Kamarul," he added.
He said this after officiating the Johor Quarry Association charity golf tournament held at Forest City Golf Resort here on Wednesday (Jan 9).- Star
