SIBU: The development agenda outlined by Barisan Nasional (BN) is only aimed at fishing votes, says PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

She claimed the agenda was far different from what the BN had implemented — noting that for over 50 years after the formation of Malaysia, the development in Sarawak was still at minimal level.

“I have just returned from campaigning in Saribas. Five ‘kampungs’ (villages) in the area do not have treated water supply. They get their water from a river.

“Moreover, that river has crocodiles — people are risking their lives every time they go there, even for taking bath,” she told reporters at Bandong Walk here on Sunday.

Wan Azizah said she had heard about the Borneo Highway during her schooltime.

“I was in high school when I heard about Borneo Highway. Today, this highway project has yet to be completed.”

On the state election, she expressed hope for PKR to retain three seats that it won in the last polls, but she was not very optimistic about it in view of the so-called ‘transfer of votes’ from one constituency to another.

Asked on PKR’s ties with DAP, Wan Azizah said there were clashes in several seats.

“Hopefully, in these areas, the votes won’t end up with the BN,” she said, adding quickly that the ties between PKR and DAP within Pakatan Harapan was good in Peninsular Malaysia.

Earlier, Wan Azizah visited Bandong Walk and met the traders and patrons there. She was accompanied by Selangor PKR Youth chief Nik Azmi Nik Ahmad, Pahang PKR Youth chief Wong Chun Yuan and PKR candidate for Nangka, Abdul Raafidin Majidi.
