‘Bro Albinus Lane’ coming up in front of SMK Sacred Heart
SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan has given a nod to the proposed renaming of a road after the late Brother Albinus (Michael O’Flaherty) in recognition of his huge sacrifice and contribution to education.
“Personally, I have spoken to CM and he has no objection to it. Yes, he is agreeable to it (the proposal),” former Sacred Heart Old Students’ Association (Shosa) president Robert Lau Hui Yew said.
Speaking on the sidelines of a BN gathering at a restaurant in Sungai Merah here Sunday night, he said he had completed the paper work and would soon submit it to the president of Sacred Heart Old Students Association (Shosa) Hii Chang Kee for the latter’s committee to follow up.
He said the proposed road was the short stretch in front of SMK Sacred Heart between Tong Sang Road traffic-light junction and Pedada Road traffic-light junction.
The idea was mooted by an old student of Sacred Heart Secondary School, Jerry Kamijan, now residing in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The idea struck him when he noticed Murni Road in Tanjung Aru, Sabah had been renamed after an educator – the late Datuk Brother Charles M. O’Leary.
Jerry, deputy chief editor of the Sabah Times, studied in Sacred Heart Schools from primary until Form Five (1985).
