Penang BN chief calls for no-confidence vote against Guan Eng after ditched snap polls
KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — Penang lawmakers should decide whether or not to keep Lim Guan Eng as chief minister through a vote in the state legislative assembly, state Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Teng Chang Yeow said today.
The state Gerakan chairman said the proper avenue was to hold a confidence vote on Lim in the assembly, just hours after the DAP secretary-general announced his party was scrapping its proposal for early state elections this year after failing to convince its PKR partner of the necessity.
“Instead of calling a snap poll to ascertain the mandate of the people of Penang for the Pakatan Harapan State Government, I would suggest that a Special Dewan Sitting be convened to pass a confidence vote on the Chief Minister.
“If the confidence vote is passed, Lim Guan Eng can continue to be the Chief Minister pending his trial. If the confidence vote fails to pass through, the people of Penang need not worry, as Chow Kon Yeow is ready to take over!” he said in a statement.
