NOW IN AMANAH, HUSAM GOES AFTER KELANTAN: ‘VERY GOOD CHANCE’ TO WREST STATE FROM PAS
CYBERJAYA – Sacked PAS vice president Datuk Husam Musa today announced his entry into Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Husam made the announcement at a dinner here tonight, putting an end to the speculation that existed even before he was expelled by the older Islamist party in May for indiscipline.
“I stand here before you to announce that I submit myself to Amanah’s fight,” Husam said.
“I hope that my application is approved… the secretary-general said he will sponsor my membership fee,” the Salor assemblyman quipped.
Speaking further before a crowd of under a hundred people, Husam said he chose Amanah because he felt the party was clear in its direction of championing the rights of the people without compromising Islamic values.
He said PAS has lost its direction and its leaders have diverted from its original cause in helping Muslims and the people in general.
“PAS, if it continues in its current state, will lose out… it is already shaky and the way I see it, Amanah has a very good chance in taking over the state in the next general election,” he said, referring to Kelantan.
Husam added that he will go on a nationwide tour to inform the public of issues affecting the country, such as 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
At a press conference later, Husam said he had also received offers to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and DAP, but did not elaborate.
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said the party will decide where best to place the new recruit and announce this later.
“Husam is an experienced politician and we will see which position is best for him at a later time,” he said.
The Kelantan lawmaker was expelled from PAS in May for indiscipline following his public criticism of the party’s leadership, especially in Kelantan where it is the ruling party.
He lashed out at the state government for failing to implement the Islamic penal code despite having enacted laws to that effect.
Husam also criticised the Kelantan government for allegedly allowing large swathes of forest reserves to be cut, resulting in floods that had devastated the state in 2014.
Additionally, he accused PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang of planning to work with political nemesis Umno to form a unity government in Selangor during the 2014 mentri besar crisis.
Husam has been linked to Amanah since the PAS offshoot was formed, owing to his affiliation with the so-called “progressives” who left the Islamist party after they were all but wiped out in internal elections.
