5 celebrities who slayed the red carpet at the VMAs

It has come to be known as the antithesis to the Oscars where fashion is concerned. As observed in the past, the MTV Video Music Awards (the VMAs) can be quirky and really “out there”. Just think flesh-baring designs, dresses with feathers, kooky colours and over-the-top silhouettes.

Here are five stars who got it right at this year’s VMAs – although in an overtly weird and wonderful way.

Beyonce

Singer-songwriter Beyonce wore a see-through gown by Maison Francesco Scognamiglio. The fantastical design was pale green and had hints of metallic accents. Her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, went full princess mode in a Mischka Aoki dress, complete with a tulle skirt and tiara.

Holland Roden

Actress Holland Roden’s choice was rather otherwordly. She opted for an ivory silk crepe jumpsuit with a full length cape from Kayat. Her hair was even decorated with glitter to give the whole look an extra sci-fi feel.

Winnie Harlow

Looking gorgeous in a one-shoulder, mocha-hued Nicolas Jebran dress, Winie Harlow proved that she has nothing that needs hiding. The model with vitiligo also pushed her style further by donning a face net with jeweled details.

Jeremy Scott

Designer Jeremy Scott stayed true this aesthetic by stepping out in a suit with psychedelic embroidery. Accompanying him is his muse, supermodel Stella Maxwell, who wore a colourful crop top and bell bottoms.

Britney Spears

Britney’s back, alright. The singer made her eagerly-anticipated return to the VMAs by performing Make Me from her new album Glory that night. On the red carpet, she rocked a Julien MacDonald black asymmetric dress with a cutout across the chest.
