The Lib Dems have put Nigel Farage’s face onto Theresa May’s head in a striking election poster

LONDON — The Liberal Democrats have launched their official general election poster — and it’s quite something.

The party led by Tim Farron has produced a poster showing the face of former UKIP leader and chief Brexiteer Nigel Farage transposed onto the head of Prime Minister Theresa May, with “vote her get him” printed in bold black font.

Lib Dem Vince Cable launched the poster in Twickenham, London earlier today. The former minister accused Prime Minister May of adopting the “UKIP model of Brexit” that satisfies the demands of Farage and the hard right-wing.

“To understand what is going on you have to listen to the voices of the people who are Mrs May’s cheerleaders and admirers,” Cable said.

“Nigel Farage. He purrs like an elder statesman, his job done.

“He said of the Prime Minister ‘she is using exactly the words and phrases I have been using for 20 years. I’m thrilled’.

“He should be. She has adopted wholesale the UKIP model of Brexit. No half measures. Out of the Single Market. Out of the customs union. Out of all the sensible cooperation around science and environment.

“The agenda of the hard right.”

The Liberal Democrats have pledged to hold a nationwide referendum on the proposed terms of Britain’s exit from the European Union if elected to government. The party wants to keep Britain in the single market and customs union.

Twickenham is one of a handful of marginal seats the Liberal Democrats hope to win on June 8. Cable lost there in 2015 to Conservative Tania Mathias but by a slim margin of 3.1% that he hopes to overturn this time around.

Business Insider caught up Farron during his campaign visit to Stockport yesterday. He told us that May was “arrogant” and “anti-democratic” for refusing to participate in the ITV leaders’ debate that took place in nearby Salford on Thursday night.

“How dare Theresa May call a general election for the benefit of only Theresa May and then not have the guts to face up to the electorate?” said to us an interview.

As you will have seen, I am more than happy to put myself into places where I may get asked difficult questions and meet people who don’t agree with me. That’s what politics should be about.

“I think it’s anti-democratic for her to snub last night’s debate and snub the British people.”
