Don't bite hand that feeds you, DPM tells pensioners

Government pensioners must not be ungrateful if they expect good things from the government, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
"Pensioners, while hoping for better things from the government, at the same time, insyaAllah, must never bite the hand that feeds them," Zahid said at an assembly of retired civil servants in Serdang, Selangor.
Even if they wished to be thankful to Allah for the good in their life, he said, they should also be thankful to those who gave it to them.
"We are not grateful to Allah if we don't thank those that give it to us," Zahid, who is also the home minister, added.
He said pensioners must remain steadfast with those who had taken care of them even if there were some ill feelings.

Differences of opinion are acceptable he said, but it must not stray from religious teachings.
Earlier in his speech, Zahid called on the government to review the pension rate of retirees whose last pay scale was so low that they had to take "1Malaysia People's Aid".
He also said he would whisper to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to announce more goodies for pensioners.
"The prime minister is a good listener," he said. - Mkini
