PKR will continue to use contentious e-voting system

PKR POLLS | UPDATED 2.20AM | PKR will continue using its electronic voting system for the party's internal election, said the party's president-elect Anwar Ibrahim.
This comes after the party's political bureau deliberated on the matter last night.
PKR's Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Perak chapters were supposed to vote for the party's central leadership council (MPP) and division leadership over the weekend.
However, the election could only be successfully held in Penang. New dates for the other three states have not been set.
As Anwar explained, the election committee had identified some of the issues affecting the e-voting system, and that an amended system will be used in the polls for the Johor divisions this Sunday.
"Technicians will be on standby at every polling district. We have also reminded security (to be more vigilant). And we have issued a stern warning to leaders who cross the forbidden zone (in the voting area), they will be immediately suspended," he said.
Members thrown out
Anwar also noted that PKR had identified those involved in commotions in Merbok and Seberang Jaya and had terminated their memberships.
He said that one member in Merbok had carried a weapon while the member in Seberang Jaya had thrown a chair.
"When they are inside the party, they will throw chairs at us. It's better for us to throw them out," said Anwar.
Last Saturday, Kedah PKR suspended nine of 15 division elections after tensions flaredamong members unhappy with the e-voting system.
As a result, the election committee announced at a press conference in Seberang Jaya that the results from all Kedah divisions would be invalidated, but that the results from all 13 Penang divisions would stand.
This led to a fight breaking out, with one member trying to fend off others with a banquet chair, and another individual throwing a chair as a projectile.
The next round of elections will take place this Sunday in Johor. - Mkini
