KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has arrived to open the first meeting of the second session of the 14th Parliament.
On Jan 31, the King made history by becoming the fastest to ascend the federal throne as Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The entire month of January saw a series of unprecedented events in Malaysia's constitutional monarchy.
Following the resignation of Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V's resignation as Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 6, the Pahang royal council moved quickly to preserve the line of succession in the rotation of the nine Malay Rulers.
His Majesty arrived at Parliament Square at 10.08am, and was welcomed by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.
Also present to greet the King on his arrival were Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accompanied by his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
The King was then led to the royal stage to receive the royal salute mounted by the Royal Malay Regiment Central Band, which was led by Major Muhammad Nor Azizan Yahya.
At the same time, the royal flag was hoisted, accompanied by a 21-gun salute and the national anthem, ‘Negaraku’.
Al-Sultan Abdullah then inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by six officers and 103 members from the First Battalion Royal Malay Regiment, Sungai Besi Camp, led by Major Ahmad Safuan Jaafar before returning to the royal stage to receive the royal salute for the second time, which was followed by the national anthem.
After the ceremony, the King was then led to the Royal Room in the Parliament building for a group photo, and then to Parliament House to deliver his speech.- Star
