Negeri Sembilan speaker Zulkefly Mohamad Omar has dredged up a decade-old RM10 million scandal involving former menteri besar Mohamad Hasan.

Speaking at a ceramah in Taman Kelab Tunku last night, Zulkefly asked why the MACC had not taken any action against Mohamad over a money transfer case involving a money changer.

“Who said he (Mohamad) is clean? I have made a police and MACC report (back then) because Mohamad took money (out of the country) using a money changer.

“But until now, he has not been detained. I will meet with the MACC and ask why he hasn’t been arrested,” he said.

Zulkefly was referring to a 2008 case in which Mohamad allegedly broke banking laws by transferring RM10 million to London via a money changer.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers under the BN government, however, did not take any action against Mohamad.

“The AGC has scrutinised the details of the investigation. The RM10 million was not the product of corruption,” then-de facto law minister Nancy Shukri was reported as saying in a 2013 parliamentary reply by the Malay Mail.

“The AGC was of the opinion that it was more appropriate to take action on the money changer,” Nancy added.

Mohamad had in the past denied any wrong-doing in the matter.

The case first came to light when Bank Negara launched a probe into errant money changers in 2009.

Mohamad is currently defending his Rantau state seat in a by-election.

Zulkefly was speaking at a ceramah in support of Mohamad’s main contender, Pakatan Harapan’s Dr S Streram.

Meanwhile, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad, at the same ceramah, likened Umno’s alliance with PAS to Israel.

“The Jews unite because of the same race and religion.

“They (PAS-Umno) don’t care whether they do right or wrong, are fair or cruel, are liars or thieves. As long as they are Malay Muslims, they will unite,” Khaled said.

He said the Jews also espoused the same views.

The Rantau by-election is a four-cornered fight between Mohamad, Streram and independent candidates R Malar and Mohd Nor Yasin.

The seat fell vacant after the Federal Court upheld a decision to void Mohamad’s walkover win last year.

This stemmed from the returning officer’s move to block Streram from filing his nomination papers in the 2018 general election.

Polling day takes place on April 13.
