Baru says there’s no bad blood with Chong

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian has clarified that there is no bad blood between him and his DAP counterpart Chong Chieng Jen, The Star Online reported today.

According to the report, Baru said he was open to Chong and the DAP anytime, and that they had in fact met up at a hotel prior to nomination day of the recent Sarawak state election at a time when there were claims the two were not on talking terms.

The Ba’Kelalan assemblyman said both he and Chong were aware that the people wanted a united front for the 14th General Election (GE14).

“In the coming general election, we have already planned that we should meet up early for seat negotiations, and the national leaders are aware of this.”

“We will ensure that we are united for GE14, that is my guarantee,” he said at a forum, titled “Sarawak election: Lessons learnt and the way forward”.

In the recently concluded Sarawak state election, tensions between the two Pakatan Harapan coalition partners ran high due to failed seat negotiations.

Baru, unhappy with what the national party leaders had decided, made the decision to veto the seat negotiations.

This resulted in PKR and DAP overlapping in six seats, namely Mulu, Mambong, Murum, Simanggang, Ngemah and Batu Kitang.

Barisan Nasional won all of the six overlapping seats in the May 7 election.
