Mayor appeals kindergarten teacher to fight drugs

BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: Banjarbaru Mayor Nadjmi Adhani appeals kindergarten teacher combating narcotics to protect the younger generation, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“We ask kindergarten teachers to play a role in combating drugs by teaching their students about the dangers of drugs,” said the mayor in Banjarbaru Monday.

Mayor delivered his appeal on the 66th anniversary of the Association of Kindergarten Teachers (IGTKI) PGRI Banjarbaru attended by 812 kindergarten teachers from various schools in the city.

According to the mayor, a kindergarten teacher and early childhood teachers can teach about character education from an early age when the child was in kindergarten and those still in care.

The hope, is mentioned, as a form of concern due to rampant drug abuse and kindergarten and early childhood teachers are expected to teach their students from an early age for protection.

“Kindergarten teacher and early childhood must have had ways and techniques in teaching their students about drugs, at least they know the danger,” he said.

According to the results of research by Banjarbaru Narcotics Agency’s Research and Data Center (Puslidatin BNK) in 2015, drug abuse is very alarming in the city seen from number of users.

He said the group who try to use as many as 1,547 users or 0.87 percent, then 0.80 percent or 1,423 regular users. While the user groups who had been taking drug for one year is 1.89 percent or 3,361 users, bringing the total reached 6,000.

“That number, of course, be our common concern, so we encourage all parties to work together to combat drugs in order not rampant,” he said.

He added that Banjarbaru has a Regional Regulation No. 7 of 2014 which regulates drug abuse, psychotropic and other addictive substances.

“Its application requires the cooperation of all parties, not just BNN, police or other security forces, but the whole party and society components,” he said.
