Dr Vida has eye on Rayani Air shares
PETALING JAYA: Cosmetics millionaire Hasmiza Othman, more commonly known as Dr Vida, is considering buying shares in Rayani Air, now that the Shariah-compliant airline is stricken with financial difficulties.
She was quoted telling Utusan Malaysia that it would be a pity if the airline was closed down, especially when it flies to Kelantan.
“A lot of Kelantan folk are working in the Klang Valley and when Rayani Air ceased operating, they were left with one less means of transport.
“If it’s about the money, what’s wrong if I fork out some funds to buy shares in the airline?” she was quoted as saying.
According to her, she is in the process of evaluating her option of investing in the airline and would meet its owner soon to get more information about the company.
She said what drew her to consider investing in the airline was its Shariah-compliant policy. She also said the aviation industry held huge prospects business-wise, and she was planning to branch out her business portfolio to include other industries.
Rayani Air’s operations was suspended for three months effective April 11, after the airline failed to adhere to certain conditions set by the Transport Ministry and the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
Its owner, Ravi Alagendran reportedly said he was willing to part with his 51% stake in the airline, provided the new investors maintained the airline’s Shariah-compliant status.
