3,000 cops to ensure smooth polling in Sungai Besar by-election
SUNGAI BESAR, June 17 — About 3,000 policemen are to be deployed to ensure security on polling day tomorrow in the Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election.
Royal Malaysia Police media relations officer for the by-election, ACP Khalil Ariffin, said today the policemen would be stationed at every road intersection and at all polling districts.
“Voters are advised to come out early to exercise their right. Voters living outside the constituency are advised to come early as well as as they could be held up by traffic congestion along the Klang-Teluk Intan trunk road,” he told reporters.
He said the voters should have no fear coming out to vote as the police would ensure security.
“The police will also ensure security at the vote-tallying centre at the Sri Bernam Hall where the announcement of the by-election result will be made,” he said.
Khalil said road users who had no business in Sungai Besar should use alternative routes to Teluk Intan or Kuala Selangor.
Asked about police reports during the campaign, he said 26 police reports were made, including one on a candidate’s poster in Sekinchan having been smeared with paint.
“We received that report at about 10am today at the Sekinchan police station as the incident occurred late last night or early today,” he said. — Bernama
