PKR: Manikavasagam is innocent until proven guilty
PETALING JAYA: Former Kapar MP S Manikavasagam is innocent until proven guilty, says PKR disciplinary board chairman Abdul Hadi Khatab.
“Although PKR views the action taken by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seriously, the disciplinary board is of the opnion that any investigation or allegations by MACC cannot be viewed as a prosecution and a conviction,” he said in a press statement.
Abdul Hadi said this in response to the anti-graft body’s decision to investigate the Kuala Selangor PKR chief over alleged corruption and misconduct.
However, he revealed the party’s disciplinary board would conduct an investigation into Manikavasagam that was independent from the MACC in terms of party discipline.
Abdul Hadi also said the board was currently waiting to meet Manikavasagam for more details on the allegations he made, before it began its own investigations.
“PKR views allegations of corruption and misconduct by its members seriously.”
Earlier today, Manikavasagam claimed there were certain quarters out to ruin his reputation by trying to set him up.
The former lawmaker claimed that two men had flung a white package into his car while he was purchasing drinks at a petrol station in Kapar, only for MACC officers to arrive at the scene before he could even get rid of the package.
The MACC later said they found RM30,000 in the package.
He was arrested by MACC officers on Wednesday on suspicion that he allegedly received a RM30,000 bribe from a contractor. He is now out on bail.
