PKR to probe former MP detained by MACC
KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — PKR’s disciplinary board will investigate if S. Manikavasagam had breached party discipline after the former federal lawmaker was detained by anti-graft authorities.
PKR disciplinary board chairman Datuk Abdul Hadi Khatab said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) alone cannot determine whether Manikavasagam has committed any wrongdoing.
“Keadilan takes seriously the issue of bribery and wrongdoing among its party members. Although we take MACC’s action seriously, we are also of the opinion that they alone cannot determine wrongdoing,” he said, referring to PKR in Malay.
“So, the Keadilan disciplinary board will conduct an investigation independent from MACC on Manikavasagam Sundaram in terms of party discipline. We are waiting to meet Manikavasagam Sundaram to get further information,” he added.
Yesterday, PKR vice president Chua Tian Chang revealed that the former Kapar MP was detained by MACC on Wednesday but later released on bail yesterday morning.
Manikavasagam was Kapar MP from 2008 until 2013, but was not chosen to defend his seat. PKR instead replaced him with G. Manivannan.
