Sabah police seize 5kg of syabu worth RM360,000 in Tawau
TAWAU, June 17 — Sabah police seized 5120.66gm of drugs believed to be syabu worth RM360,000 after arresting two men at Tawau Airport’s arrival hall here, yesterday.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said state Narcotics CID and Tawau district headquarters police nabbed the first suspect aged 36, when they noticed him acting in a suspicious manner upon arrival from Kuala Lumpur around 7.15pm.
“The man was taken to Tawau Airport police station for further inspection on his luggage consisting of a black trolley bag, a backpack and a brown box wrapped in transparent plastic,” he told a press conference here today.
He said police found another bag containing two packages wrapped in gift paper inside the brown box.
The two packages contained three and two plastic packets, respectively, filled with clear crystals believed to be syabu, he said.
Abdul Rashid said police subsequently detained another man, aged 43, believed to be an accomplice of the first suspect, in front of the airport’s arrival hall.
The duo, from Miri in Sarawak and Kunak, Sabah respectively, are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police also seized a Toyota Vigo. — Bernama
