Key Liverpool backroom staff member departs after 10 years
Liverpool today announced via the official website that long-serving physio Chris Morgan is leaving for pastures new.
Morgan has been with the club since 2006, working his way up to head of physiotherapy under a number of managers including Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish, Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.
The German though is bringing in his own backroom staff this summer, with Bayern Munich duo Andreas Kornmayer and Mona Nemmer arriving before the start of next season.
It’s apparent that Klopp wants his own closely knit team, but the club was right to thank Morgan for his loyal service.
“Chris is someone who commands the professional respect and personal warmth of the first-team players and all his colleagues at Melwood,” they said.
“The dedication and commitment he has shown to Liverpool, over a long period, has been immense. His expertise and experience has rightly gained him industry-wide recognition.
“We thank Chris for his considerable contribution and everyone at the club wishes him success for the future.”
Not that it was entirely Morgan’s fault, but Liverpool suffered terribly with injuries last term, and our chances of enjoying a successful campaign in 2016/17 will dramatically increase if we can keep players fit.
Who knows what kind of season we’d have had if Daniel Sturridge, Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and Jordan Henderson had been available throughout.
Without European football next term, our chances of keeping the squad in full health have increased. With a fit squad, a few new transfers and more time on the training ground with Klopp, anything could be possible in 2016/17.
