Ambiga stumps for Amanah in Sungai Besar
SABAK BERNAM, June 5 ― Civil rights activist Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan proclaimed today her support for Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in the Sungai Besar by-election.
She dubbed Amanah as the only “true” party in standing up to the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Amanah is the only true opponent against tyranny and they support the Citizens’ Declaration which calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and institutional reforms,” Ambiga told a crowd of 100 Amanah supporters in front the party's headquarters in Pekan Sungai Besar here.
Besides the prominent former Malaysian Bar president, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is also purportedly campaigning for Pakatan Harapan in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections on the Citizens’ Declaration platform, according to former Umno leader Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
The Sungai Besar by-election in Selangor will see Amanah’s Azhar Shukur, a local leader, facing off against Dr Rani Osman from PAS and Budiman Mohd Zohdi from BN.
The Kuala Kangsar by-election in Perak will see a four-way fight between BN’s Mastura Mohd Yazid, PAS' Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, Amanah's Ahmad Termizi Ramli and, independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
BN previously won both federal seats in the 13th general elections. Polling for both by-elections is on June 18.
