Check out some of these George Town Festival offerings
GEORGE TOWN, June 15 ― Lily is a successful woman, in love and in life, and yet something is missing. We follow her as she delves deep into her soul to search for what is missing.
Missing is a unique contemporary dance and theatrical performance by award-winning physical dance theatre company Gecko and produced by Amit Lahav. Ever since its introduction in 2012, it has toured to Russia, China, Georgia, Malta, Colombia, Mexico and all across the UK.
Missing, which will be featured in this year’s George Town Festival, is Gecko's first show in South-east Asia. Missing plays on August 5 and 6 at the Dewan Sri Pinang and tickets are from RM25 and above.
Have you ever attended a play where you close your eyes and listen to the story unfold as your imagination takes flight?
For the first time in Asia, the radio play, All That Fall, will be played here where you can set your imagination free as you listen to the story unfold.
Unlike a theatre performance or a dance, this radio play is all about sitting down, closing your eyes and relying fully on your auditory sense to experience a black comedy, a murder mystery and a cryptic literary riddle backgrounded by a quasi-musical score.
All That Fall, originally written by Samuel Beckett and first broadcast in 1957, is Pan Pan Theatre's creative experimentation with a radio play. The play has won numerous awards and has been performed in Dublin, New York and Sydney with its performance in GTF as its debut in Asia. All That Fall plays on August 6 and 7.
The exciting beats of the flamenco combined with the Andalusian music of Morocco ― Chekara ― is also coming to GTF on August 19 and 20.
Chekara, one of the oldest and most outstanding and influential Flamenco-Andalusí groups, will introduce its second project “Tan cerca, tan lejos” (So near, so far) here. The performance is also an Asian debut and produced by Estrella Morente.
Be enthralled by the graceful flamenco dancer as she twirls to the “live” beats and music from the ensemble of musicians.
Tickets to these performances are now open for sale at georgetownfestival.com. GTF kicks off on July 29 and will feature international and local arts and cultural performances throughout the month.
