Freed Sibu hostages home at last
SIBU: The four freed hostages have arrived safely at Sibu Airport at 8.50am today (June 14) and were greeted by their relieved family members waiting outside the arrival hall.
They were immediately whisked to their cars waiting at the airport entrance by police without speaking to reporters.
Wong Chee Ming, father of brothers Teck Kang and Teck Chii, arrived in Sibu along with the four.
He told reporters waiting in his house that they would speak in a press conference tomorrow morning.
“I thank the public for their concern. The four of them have been interviewed by police since their arrival in Sandakan last Wednesday. They are tired now. Let them rest. We shall talk tomorrow,” he said.
On arrival back home, the freed men were served with Foochow traditional longevity noodles served in chicken soup – locally known as ‘mee sua’ – as a little taste of home.
The four Sarawakians were kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf gunmen on April 1 and the militants had reportedly demanded a ransom of RM18 million for their release.
They were released on June 8.
