Manong bridge promises ‘since Rafidah’s time’
KUALA KANGSAR: Parti Amanah Negara has urged Prime Minister Najib Razak and the Perak state government to fulfill their promises of a bridge at Manong, near here.
The party’s Perak state chairman, Asmuni Awi, hoped that Barisan Nasional was not merely sweet-talking the voters when it promised to allocate RM43.5 million for construction of the bridge.
“We are not asking (Najib) to talk about the allocation, but about when they are going to start the project and when it will be completed. He Najib can give the allocation just like that, but at the end of the day, we see nothing.
“So this is just another political ploy. This is an old issue. When will they build the bridge? When will the allocation be approved and in which Malaysian Plan did it come from?,” he said at a press conference here.
He accused the Barisan Nasional of trying to diffuse the situation. However Manong people now realised that although they had been constantly provided with sweet promises, the execution had never taken place.”
Yesterday Najib promised to approve an allocation for the Manong bridge, as a Ramadhan gift for the Kuala Kangsar folk.
Asmuni accused the ruling coalition for denying the fact that there had been five separate groundbreaking ceremonies at the construction site.
In fact, the first ceremony had taken place during the time of the constituency’s former MP, Rafidah Aziz, who was trade minister in the Mahathir Mohamad government.
“The prime minister said he doesn’t know about it, well if he doesn’t know he can verify it with the former minister, who was the Kuala Kangsar MP.”
