Day-1 Of Chaos – Clinton In Trouble As Supporters Boo & Fight Each Other
Trump was formally nominated for president at a chaotic Republican convention in Cleveland last week. Fellow Republican Ted Cruz who lost to him took to the stage but sensationally refused to endorse Donald Trump. Cruz said toward the end of his speech – “Don’t stay home in November. Stand and speak and vote your conscience.” – suggesting a vote for rival Hillary Clinton.
Delegates began to boo Ted Cruz, calling him a sore loser and some chanted “We want Trump!” Trump tweeted that Cruz didn’t honour the pledge GOP candidates had signed to back the eventual Republican nominee. He tweeted – “Wow, Ted Cruz got booed off the stage, didn’t honour the pledge! I saw his speech two hours early but let him speak anyway. No big deal!”
Today is Clinton’s turn to be crowned as the Democratic candidate. But it is more chaotic than Trump’s. Unlike Ted Cruz, Democrat Bernie Sanders who lost to Hillary Clinton took to the stage and urged the audience – “Hillary Clinton must become the next president of America.” Spectacularly, Sanders drew jeers from his own supporters.
Bernie said – “Brothers and sisters, this is the real world that we live in, Trump is a bully and a demagogue.” Members of the crowd screamed back – “So is Hillary. She stole the election!” The Democrat supporters hate Hillary Clinton so much that now they couldn’t think straight and are having difficulty listening to Bernie Sanders to vote for Clinton.
The chaos on the first day of the Democratic convention on Monday in Philadelphia started after WikiLeaks released on Friday of nearly 20,000 Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails revealing how the Democratic Party favoured Hillary Clinton and conspired behind the scenes to discredit and defeat Bernie Sanders, as early as March 2015.
In one email, DNC Chief Financial Officer Brad Marshall suggested someone ask Sanders about his religion ahead of the Kentucky and West Virginia contests. In another email, Debbie Wasserman Schultz calls Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver a “Damn liar.” Obviously, the whole DNC machinery was mobilised to attack Sanders so that Clinton could win.
One email exchange concerned the singer Ariana Grande, who was being considered to perform at a DNC event but was caught in an infamous online video that showed her licking other customers’ doughnuts at a bakery in California. DNC officials also worried about a comment in the same video – “I hate America.” The leaked emails also reveal White House officials vetoed Grande’s performance.
Following the leak, the DNC chairwoman, Florida Congress member Debbie Wasserman Schultz, has resigned. The emails also reveal a close relationship between mainstream media outlets and the DNC. Essentially the leak by WikiLeaks founder and Editor-in-chief Julian Assange proves how mainstream media were paid to run down Republican Donald Trump.
Sanders supporters were already dismayed last week when Hillary Clinton passed over liberal favourites U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts to select the more moderate Tim Kaine as her running mate. Clinton camp now fears the conspiracy within Democratic Party in running down another Democrat could force Bernie supporters to swing their votes for Trump.
A CNN/ORC opinion poll gave Trump a 48% to 45% lead over Clinton in a two-way presidential contest. To rescue the scandal, Clinton’s campaign was quick to point fingers at Russia, saying it was an attempt to boost Donald Trump’s shot at the White House. Mr. Trump has made no secret of his admiration for President Vladimir Putin, as does the Russian supremo about Trump.
Wikileaks did not reveal how it acquired the files, though a hacker who goes by “Guccifer 2.0” has claimed to have breached the party’s system. Earlier this year, Russian hackers were accused of having stolen material from the DNC’s email system. Vladimir Putin, of course, has claimed Russia does not meddle in other countries’ internal affairs.
Here’re 4 latest poll numbers which are disastrous to Hillary Clinton:
- CNN poll shows 68% say Clinton isn’t honest and trustworthy. The 30% who see Clinton as honest and trustworthy is lower than 43% who says the same about Trump.
- CNN poll says 39% have favourable view of Clinton, whereas CBS shows 31% and Gallup says 38%. This is the first time Clinton’s image is worse than Trump
- Only 38% say they’re proud of Clinton, down from 55% in March 2015. In comparison, Trump fares slightly better with 39% would be proud.
- CNN poll shows 45% who had voted in Democratic primaries still prefer Sanders; with just 49% say they would vote Clinton.
However, Trump accused the DNC itself of masterminding the hack. Regardless of who had hacked the emails, the fact remains that the Clintons, who possess the upper hand in controlling the DNC after decades of strong grip, have been using dirty tricks in discrediting Democrats’ own candidates, working hand-in-glove with the White House in rigging the election.
