Don’t get us wrong; we got nothin’ against being in love. In fact, we are kinda in love with the notion of being in a happy relationship, because who doesn’t want to be treated like the most special human being in the world? Having said that, there are some habits that lovebirds do which annoy the hell out of people around them. With an eye closed to Public Displays of Affection, here are seven things that Malaysian couples really should STOP doing:

1. Guy carrying girlfriend’s handbag

Guys, seriously? We know your girlfriend is precious and you want her to know that, but by carrying her handbag throughout a whole date instantly brands ‘LOSER’ instead of ‘MACHO’ across your forehead. She won’t fall over from the weight of her little handbag – plus, it’s your chance to display karate skills should (knock on wood) a snatch thief comes along.

2. Feeding each other

A sight to sore eyes, even to someone like me who can’t keep her hands off her boyfriend whenever he’s around. Don’t treat your boyfriend/girlfriend as though he/she were a toddler, spooning food into each others’ mouths. You two are old enough to date, so why not act like you’re old enough to feed yourselves? Save the spoon-feeding for when you’re old and unable to hold a spoon.

3. Blocking escalators

The bane of all weekend shoppers, these sticky couples are. Traveling on an escalator only takes a minute, so why not stand apart from one another just so people can carry on with their errands? Being in love doesn’t give you the right to stand in other peoples’ way, so please be considerate, thank you very much!

4. Wearing matching T-shirts

Playing twinsies for your #OOTD? It’s cute, but it’s getting old. And maybe unnecessary. On top of PDA, we have to endure mirrored outfits too (cue eye rolls). Instead of matching shirts, why not be more original and dress to a colour or theme? Uniformed outfits are so last decade… remember having to wear the same clothes as hundreds and thousands of school kids?

5. Posting sappy messages on each other’s Facebook walls

We’ve all got them, friends who spend 24/7 with their better half AND post cheesy messages on each other’s Facebook timelines. For all we know, they’re sitting next to each other over dinner, and commenting on each other’s food photo. Please, SPARE US.

6. Ignoring their friends when out in a group

Our friend may be deeply in love, but we still enjoy their company enough to ask them out. It’s great that they want to bring their boyfriend/girlfriend (‘coz we are kaypoh like that!), but it all goes downhill when they clearly only have eyes, hands and ears for each other. Whether it’s just you and the couple, or the couple in a group, strap yourself in for a very awkward time.

7. Girlfriends dragging their boyfriends on shopping sprees

A scenario that’s all too familiar: You’re browsing racks in narrow spaces, only to be slowed down by a slumped male frame in your way because his girlfriend can’t shop alone. Worse still when she goes on to ask for the guy’s opinion, who clearly can’t be bothered with colour schemes. Girls, only do this if you are willing to give back equal hours with your guy gaming at Cyber Cafés.
