Brad Pitt is sad that Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce
Hollywood super couple Angelina Jolie, 41, and Brad Pitt, 52, are getting a divorce. Actress Jolie had filed for a divorce petition on Sept 15; the news broke five days later when US entertainment website TMZ ran an article with details of the petition.
The non-stop media frenzy has left many to speculate on the reasons for their split, which is formally cited as “irreconcilable differences” in the file. TMZ also reported that there are possible issues of substance abuse and uncontrollable anger, with Jolie stating she is worried for their children over Pitt’s behaviour.
Shortly after, stories of Pitt’s rumoured extra-marital affairs with French actress Marion Cotillard started to surface and it seems like the Hollywood entertainment tabloids are all out to get that theory proven.
With everything happening so fast, Pitt has made this official statement to People magazine: “I am very saddened by this but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
Jolie’s management has also released a similar statement via her lawyer, Robert Offer. “This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
Her manager, Geyer Kosinski, also said this to E! News: “Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest of taking care of her family. She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Jolie and Pitt first met while filming Mr & Mrs Smith in 2003; Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston at the time. After his divorce to Aniston, Pitt and Jolie were together for about 10 years before tying the knot in 2014. They have six children together – Maddox (15 years old), Pax (12), Zahara (11), Shiloh (10), and twin sisters Knox and Vivienne, eight.
Jolie has been married twice; the first time to Jonny Lee Miller in 1996 and again to Billy Bob Thornton in 2000.
I am very saddened by this but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids.
