STOMACH CANCER: A SILENT KILLER – MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS (DON’T IGNORE THEM)
Although stomach cancer isn’t as common as decades ago, it is still a disease which affects more than 20 000 people in the USA every year. If caught on time, there’s a 90% chance of survival. However, the symptoms often go unnoticed and the disease is usually diagnosed after it has spread to other organs. In this stage, stomach cancer is very difficult to treat, and deadly in most cases.
So, how can we stop this nasty disease? By knowing how to recognize the early symptoms that people usually miss. Here are the most common stomach cancer symptoms listed by the American Cancer Society:
- Indigestion or heartburn
- Discomfort or pain in the abdomen
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Bloating of the stomach after meals
- Loss of appetite
- Weakness and fatigue
- Bleeding (vomiting blood or having blood in the stool)
The most common risk factors for the disease are being a male over 55, smoking and alcohol abuse, previous stomach surgeries, family history of stomach cancer, eating smoked, cured and salted meat often and the presence of a bacterial called H. Pylori in the stomach. If you found yourself in any of these groups, you should visit a doctor at the slightest sign of any of the aforementioned symptoms.
