STUBBORN AZIZAH INSISTS ON ANWAR FOR PM: BUT THE REAL PUPPET MASTER IS ANWAR HIMSELF

Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said an interim prime minister will be chosen by opposition lawmakers if Pakatan Harapan were to win the 14th general election (GE14).

According to her, selecting an interim PM candidate is necessary as PKR’s choice of candidate, Anwar Ibrahim, is in jail.

“There is a hedge, of course, because Anwar is still in jail. The interim (prime minister) candidate, of course, will be the one who enjoys the majority support from the MPs,” Wan Azizah said at a press conference today.

She also pointed out that Anwar was the only candidate designated for the post of prime minister before Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) joined the coalition.

Asked how soon the opposition would discuss the subject of interim prime minister, she said what was more important now was for Pakatan Harapan to win GE14.

The Permatang Pauh MP also denied that Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad disagreed with PKR’s choice of candidate for the post.

“He did not say he disagreed (with Anwar as candidate fopr PM). He said there is no need to name one. That does not mean he disagrees.

“He understood that we must announce Anwar as PM candidate. There is no issue if you choose to name (your designated PM) or decided against it, because we need to win (the election) first,” she added.

At its annual congress held recently, the PKR leader reiterated that Anwar was the party’s choice of PM, with its leaders displaying placards bearing the words ‘Anwar as 7th PM’.

The move of Mahathir and Muhyiddin in not raising the placards as well at the PKR congress drew immediate speculation that Bersatu disagreed with PKR on Anwar as the opposition’s PM candidate.

Yesterday, Mahathir clarified that Anwar was one of Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister candidates.

She also rubbished speculation that PKR leaders had asked Anwar to stop pursuing premiership and had named Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as next prime minister if Pakatan Harapan were to win GE14.

It was speculated Anwar was approached by PKR leaders on this in November last year.

“There are a lot of speculations going around. I have to check with him, I don’t think so,” Wan Azizah said.
