Lab test on cladding similar to the Grenfell Tower panels set alight in just 2 minutes
A piece of cladding, similar to that used on Grenfell Tower, has been tested at a laboratory to see its combustibility.
The piece of cladding was made out of aluminium and polyethylene. In the experiment, carried out by Sky News, the cladding set alight at 700 degrees Celsius within just two minutes. This is a medium heat for a fire.
In the Grenfell Tower fire, temperatures were estimated to reach around 1,00 degrees.
The flammable nature of the cladding is suspected to be a cause of the fire spreading across the building so quickly.
At least 3o people were killed in the blaze.
