No mercy for those who aided, abetted the kleptocrats
YOURSAY | If the AG has any sense, he should tender his resignation immediately.
Cogito Ergo Sum: While Pakatan Harapan leader Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he will not go on a witch hunt, he must take cognisance of the persecution of the rakyat by certain top government officials.
They have twisted the law to favour their political masters and made a mockery of justice. They must be dealt with swiftly and their wrongs righted. That is one of the reasons Pakatan Harapan was chosen by the people.
That said, Mahathir is an expert on such matters. I am almost afraid for these crooked officials.
Negarawan: "We shall continue to ensure the rule of law without fear or favour," said attorney-general (AG) Mohamed Apandi Ali.
Apandi is an abomination of the law. He has acted like a judge in the corruption case involving 1MDB and cleared the key suspects of wrongdoing.
The role of the AG is to protect the interest of the rakyat. He should have let the 1MDB case be heard in court. Apandi has also not provided any mutual legal assistance to many countries.
These represent a gross dereliction of duty by the AG and is totally unacceptable.
Behsaikong: The new government will serve the people best by replacing the AG and the Election Commission (EC) chief soonest possible.
That will send a clear signal to other occupiers of federal bodies and departments that they should understand they don't serve political masters but the people of Malaysia.
Who the new government pick for such positions will reflect the kind of government they will be.
Anonymous 432321505022479: The MACC must be revamped and MACC special operations division director Bahri Mohd Zin (who is now retired) should be restored to his former position and tasked with resurrecting the SRC case and bring to book all those involved in the scandal.
Former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail (whose position was unceremoniously terminated) should also be restored to his former position and asked to prosecute all those alleged criminals involved in the SRC case.
Anonymous 770241447347646: The whole judiciary system needs to be revamped, too, including the AG's Chambers.
Malaysians need to know that they can rely on the judiciary and that justice is their sole prerogative.
Anonymous_f43360b8: If AG Apandi has any sense left in him, he should tender his resignation immediately after the new government is formed.
He has severely damaged and discredited the office of the AG and tarnished the reputation of his office.
Apandi has single-handedly distorted the direction of this nation. Clearly, he has a lot to answer.
Quigonbond: The same goes for the entire EC. Once you are done with your job, we expect to see all of you tendering your resignations.
Raja Chulan: If indeed Apandi is apolitical as he claims, why issue this press statement in the first place?
Just go and do the job. Who is Apandi trying to fool?
Kim Quek: Sin Chew Daily corroborated what Malaysiakini and Free Malaysia Todayreported on Bahri’s reason for leaving MACC.
Sin Chew reported that in an interview with Bahri Mohd Zin, the latter said he was frustrated that despite having the relevant evidence, the SRC case was not brought to court, and he felt sorry for having failed 30 million Malaysians.
Bahri further told Sin Chew that he was also unhappy at the AG’s refusal to issue mutual legal assistance to enable MACC to seek evidence in foreign countries in its probe on the RM2.6 billion case.
Could all these news media be concocting what Bahri had told them, or could MACC be overzealous in salvaging its battered image?
If MACC has discharged its duty honourably and has nothing to hide, does it need to descend to the level of self-appointed spokesman for an ex-employee to reverse what the latter said about MACC?
Headhunter: We hope Mahathir will reappoint Bahri as MACC director to reinvestigate the whole sorry 1MDB affair.
He has intimate knowledge of the case and is the right person to reopen the case. This time, let no stones be left unturned.
After that, he can zero in on the other cases that had been covered up by the Najib regime. It’s time to restore our country to its full glory again.
BuatApa?: It would be extremely foolish of Mahathir to let former PM Najib Razak off the hook. This is not Mahathir's money that Najib played poker with, but the people's money.
Mahathir should sit down with Bahri and thrash out what and who needs to be investigated and let Bahri do his job by reinstating him to his former position.
Mahathir playing pious now is unhelpful to those Malaysians whose tax funds have been allegedly stolen by those in SRC and 1MDB. - Mkini
