FORMER Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor must tell the truth about the Federal Territories Foundation’s (YWP) involvement in the sale of Taman Rimba Kiara land, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh said.
Tengku Adnan was quoted by Malaysiakini as stating that YWP was not involved in the deal and had no idea about the park’s land in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur.
However, Yeoh said Tengku Adnan, who was then YWP chairman, should have known that the land was sold to a developer by the foundation.
“Tengku Adnan is either confused because he sold many (plots of) land and was unsure which one he was talking about, or did not read the documents..
Helping Hands Penan is an non-governmental organisation that assists the Penan community which Yeoh strongly supports.
Yeoh wants Tengku Adnan to tell the truth on the land transfer involving Taman Rimba Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
According to a statement issued by Save Taman Rimba Kiara Working Group, YWP procured 4.86ha of Taman Rimba Kiara land in 2014 and entered into a joint venture with a developer for a mega project.
The plan involved the construction of one block of affordable housing consisting of 350 units and eight blocks of high-end condominiums comprising more than 1,800 units.
Yeoh and Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng lodged reports with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on May 16, seeking a probe into the sale of 64 parcels of land totalling 170ha, including the one in Taman Rimba Kiara.
Yeoh said she wanted MACC to look into the conflict of interest arising from those deals as Tengku Adnan had held the position of Federal Territories minister and YWP chairman at the same time.
“YWP sold the land to the developer. I don’t know if there was any influence on Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to approve the project,” she said.
The development order for the project was dated July 13, 2017.
Koay says TTDI residents are relieved that all work has stopped after the new route was completed.
Taman Rimba Kiara Working Group coordinator Leon Koay said, “Tengku Adnan was the chairman of the foundation, the landowner of the said Taman Rimba Kiara land, and his chairmanship was by virtue of him being Federal Territories Minister then.
“So it is strange for him to talk like that,” he added.
On March 19, a notice board was put up along Jalan Mohd Fuad, where the existing entrance of the park is located, to inform the public that the entrance was to be relocated.
Work on the new route to the park, which connects Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad and Changkat Abang Haji Openg to the park’s guard-house, started in March.
The alternative route to the Taman Rimba Kiara park was completed in April.
For now, the existing route at Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad remains open.
“We are relieved that all work has stopped after the new route was completed,” said Koay.
“Hoardings were erected near the existing entrance and we hope the developer does not carry on any further work pending the court case,” he told StarMetro referring to a judicial review that will be heard before judge Nordin Hassan on June 13.-Star
