DPMM exco claims RM5m allocation from PMO 'missing', RM6.4m used for GE14

Trouble is brewing at the Malaysian Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMM) as its deputy president Syed Hussein Alhabshee and his 17 executive council members want to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) over dubious transactions made by its president, Rizal Faris Mohideen Abdul Kadir.
Among the questionable transactions is the discovery of RM5 million supposedly allocated to DPMM by the Prime Minister's Office during former premier Najib Abdul Razak's tenure, which was instead deposited into the account of a foundation - Yayasan DPMM Pulau Pinang Bhd - without prior approval from the executive council.
Also in question is the sale of two Damansara properties at Plaza Damansara for a sum of RM11.6 million where RM5.6 million was transferred into DPMM.
They said it was discovered that RM5.4 million was used for the purpose of the 14th general election without the executive council’s approval.
The exco members also alleged that another RM1 million, given by a company simply named “Redberry”, was used for election campaigning without their permission.
These details are contained in the suit filed on Sept 13 by Messrs Thomas Philip for Syed Hussein and the 17 exco members against Rizal, the DPMM secretary-general Don Nazwim Don Najib and DPMM itself.
It is stated in the suit that sometime in May this year, the plaintiffs confronted Rizal over the issues mentioned above, among others, however, the president failed to provide a decent explanation.
Today was the first case management before Kuala Lumpur High Court judicial commissioner Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, who fixed further case management on Nov 9.
'AGM should be held by June 30 annually'
Syed Hussein, in his origination summons, wants a court order for the secretary-general to call for the EGM, after failing to have an annual general meeting (AGM) latest by June 30, this year.
In its originating summons, it is cited that the DPMM constitution states that it is supposed to have the AGM annually before June 30.
However, to date, it has not held its AGM.
On April 10, this year, DPMM applied for an extension of time to convene the AGM but this was not disclosed to others, which the plaintiffs claim may result in their deregistration.
On Aug 1, the executive council convened a meeting and had written a letter dated Aug 8 requesting for the EGM but to no avail, prompting them to file this suit.
The suit also seeks an order for Syed Hussein to chair the EGM, and that all state DPMM members are entitled to vote.
In its constitution, it is stated that DPMM's role is to unite Malay businesspersons and entrepreneurs for the importance and benefit of the Malay economy. - Mkini
