Saudi Arabia Executes Indonesian Domestic Worker Who ‘Killed Boss Trying to Rape Her’
The Indonesian city of Jakarta is now condemning Saudi Arabia for executing Indonesian migrant worker Tuti Tursilawati without informing the Indonesian government.
Tursilawati was sentenced to death in 2011 for murdering her employer. The mother-of-one claimed that she only did it in self-defense after her employer sexually abused her. She was executed on Monday in the city of Ta’if, Saudi Arabia, according to Daily Mail.
Kabar duka kembali datang dari Arab Saudi. Tuty Tursilawati, pekerja migran Indonesia asal Majalengka, dieksekusi mati pada 29 Oktober 2018 kemarin.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo, meanwhile, demanded answers from Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir, asking why Jakarta was not informed on their plans to execute Tursilawati.
“We have called Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister and conveyed our protest,” Widodo was quoted as saying by the office of his cabinet secretary.
“The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has ignored principles of human rights, including a right for everyone to live,” Abidin Fikri, a member of Indonesia’s parliament, said in a statement.
Tursilawati’s death is the fourth case in three years where Saudi Arabia failed to notify Jakarta when carrying out executions of Indonesian migrant workers on death row, which there are currently 18.
“It turned out that Indonesia’s request [to protect the rights of migrant workers] was ignored by executing Tuti,” executive director at Indonesia’s Migrant Care advocacy group, Wahyu Susilo, said.
Susilo also condemned the execution and urged the president of Indonesia to take “serious” diplomatic steps to prevent any other uninformed executions of Indonesians in Saudi Arabia in the future, Daily Mail reported.
This silent execution happened just weeks after the visit of Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister to Indonesia to meet Widodo and Indonesia foreign minister Retno Marsudi. They discussed migrant workers’ rights as well as the importance of having consular notification when carrying out executions.
