‘Clueless’ Man Goes Viral After Stopping Tokyo Train From Leaving
An elderly man who managed to stop a train in time-efficient Japan has gone viral on social media.
The incident, which was caught on video, occurred around 8:40 p.m. on the underground Higashiyama Line in Kyoto on April 6.
In the video, the man is seen deliberately putting his left hand between the train doors, effectively preventing them from closing.
A station staff approaches the man after the third time he sticks his hand.
However, the man continues to block the doors in two more attempts at closing.
The staff returns for the second time, this time gently pushing the man to the back.
The man remains undeterred as they doors attempt to close few times more.
At one point, another passenger tries to secure the man by the shoulder, but the latter manages to free himself.
He then resorts to blocking the doors with his right foot.
The nuisance, which lasted for at least a minute, came to a close when a more senior-looking staff approached the doors.
The video has since made rounds on Japanese Twitter, NHK reported.
One user declared the incident as a case of “rogai,” which refers to problems caused by the elderly exerting excessive control over the young, according to SoraNews24.
In response to the incident, the city’s transportation bureau reportedly asked passengers to refrain from similar actions in the name of public safety.
Netizens slammed the man for disrupting order and causing a minute-long delay:
“Business nuisance!”
“What do you want to do after all?”
“I wish he was arrested. If they let go of him, he might do something similar again.”
