PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman has received 91 police reports about a Facebook post that allegedly insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
The Inspector-General of Police said the reports were made nationwide and were against Facebook user with the account name Sabah-Sarawak Merdeka.
He said the Facebook user had allegedly modified a photo of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“We are investigating the matter under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act. Those arrested can be fined not more than RM5,000 or face up to three years imprisonment or both upon conviction,” he said in a statement on Saturday (April 13).
The IGP’s statement comes after Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tasked Bukit Aman to investigate the reports and take serious action against the culprits.
Muhyiddin had also condemned the posting made by Sabah-Sarawak Merdeka on Facebook.
“Modifying the photo is an act that insults the monarchy. It is clearly against the law. It is an extremist act which does not symbolise Malaysians and infringes on the Federal Constitution,” said Muhyiddin.
He added that the government will not compromise when it comes to those who flout the law with the intention to disrupt public order.- Star
