BUT WHO ELSE TO BLAME FOR BAD ECONOMY BUT NAJIB? ZAHID SEEN BACKSTABBING OWN BOSS WITH FORK-TONGUED ‘DON’T BLAME NAJIB’ COMMENT
KUALA LUMPUR – Do not put the blame on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak for the turbulent economy the country faced over the past year.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that Najib has done his best in maintaining the country’s economy, and that the economic slowdown was because of the country’s reliance on the global market.
“This economic situation is not only felt by our country, but also elsewhere in the world.
“Najib has tried his level best when global petrol and gas prices went down, and this problem is not his fault,” he said when officiating the Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party annual general meeting, here, today.
Ahmad Zahid said if there were any former prime ministers claiming that the economy was much better during their time, it was because commodity prices were much higher then.
He said one should also not compare Najib’s tenure as the country’s leader to those in the past, as “all leaders have their own challenges because of the political life cycle”.
On Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar’s proposal to allow developers to provide loan facilities to property buyers, Ahmad Zahid said it was never discussed in the Cabinet.
He said Noh would be asked to explain his action to the Cabinet soon.
Noh had, on Sept 8, proposed that eligible developers be allowed to apply for moneylenders’ licences to provide up to 100% loan facilities to overcome difficulties faced by buyers in securing bank loans.
Ahmad Zahid also dismissed MCA religious harmony bureau chairman Datuk Ti Lian Ker’s suggestion that Umno practises scare tactics like saying “the Chinese are coming and the Malays are under siege” as a clarion call for Malays and Muslims to stand together.
He stressed that there have never been any attempts by Umno to scare voters, and that whatever the party was doing was to persuade and convince them.
Ti said in a statement last week that Malays today can no longer be “cowed into succumbing or falling into or under the Umno political umbrella” while their insecurity complex can no longer be exploited.
“Instead of caving in to these fear tactics, they are now gaining in confidence and self-esteem that allows them to think out of the old political or feudalistic mindset,” said Ti.
The Umno acting deputy president also took a swipe at Ti for denouncing the party, saying that matters such as this should be discussed privately among coalition members.
“I’m confident that whatever personal opinion that any of Barisan Nasional party leader may have, it is best discussed through the right channel like BN’s supreme council meeting,” he said. – Sundaily
