‘I COMPEL YOU TO GET INTERPOL TO ARREST & EXTRADITE JHO LOW’: AZMIN DOES WHAT NAJIB HAS FAILED TO DO TO PROTECT MALAYS

SELANGOR Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has sent a notice of demand to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar seeking the arrest of Low Taek Jho.

Azmin’s lawyer Latheefa Koya said the letter was sent yesterday to compel the IGP to seek the help of Interpol in the arrest and extradition   of Low.

“The IGP has 14 days to reply to the letter failing which legal action will be taken.

“Azmin has sent this letter on the basis that Low is suspected of various offences under the penal code.

“Therefore he can be considered a wanted person involved in criminal action.

“Steps must be taken by the IGP, but I believe so far none has been taken to secure him to be brought back,” she said at the lobby of the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Latheefa said Malaysia should work with Interpol, of which it was a member and which also had an office here, to issue a red notice for Low,  popularly known as Jho Low.

Lawyer N. Surendran said if Azmin would initiate court action if the IGP failed to do the necessary.

Low, whose whereabouts is unknown, is closely linked to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, which centres mainly around billions in funds allegedly siphoned by certain individuals.

Low has denied the claims directed at him.

Opposition leaders had previously challenged the government to cancel Low’s passport to compel him to return to Malaysia to answer the allegations against him.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also deputy prime minister, said Malaysia could strip Low of his citizenship if it was true that he had dual citizenship

In its latest civil asset forfeiture filing, the US DoJ said about USD$700 million (RM2.99 billion) of a US$975 million Deutsche Bank loan to 1MDB was used by Low to purchase jewellery for Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr.
