ONE ‘KUTTY’ TOO MANY FOR ZAHID: DPM SPEECHLESS & NERVOUS AFTER DR M’S EXPOSE ON HIS 1998 RM230MIL NEST-EGG

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today ignored requests by the press to respond to Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s insinuations over the former’s assets.

Zahid was mobbed by reporters after chairing the Water Resources Committee meeting with the chief executives of every state in Parliament.

Following this, Zahid was asked to respond to Mahathir’s allegation that the former had declared in 1996 that the amount in his bank accounts ran up to nine figures.

Mahathir had said that this was revealed during an asset declaration exercise when he was prime minister.

Zahid, who is usually very accommodating to the press, ignored the queries and instead walked away from the reporters after his bodyguards cleared a path.

On Sunday, Zahid told the Kelana Jaya Umno division annual general meeting that he was in possession of Mahathir’s original identity card which bore the name “Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty”.

Zahid’s purpose was to challenge Mahathir’s “Malay-ness” and accused the latter of trying to lead the Malays astray.

Following this, Mahathir called Zahid a “liar” and challenged him to produce the said identity card.

Mahathir’s family members and supporters have pointed out that “Iskandar” was, in fact, the name of the former premier’s grandfather.

Yesterday, Mahathir returned fire by accusing Zahid of seeking the former’s blessing to replace Najib.

Mahathir also claimed that he, as prime minister in 1996, had questioned Zahid over his assets.

“When I asked where he obtained the RM230 million in his bank account, his answer was unclear.

“If he can remember, he should explain where such large amount of money came from,” wrote Mahathir on his blog.
