Siti Kasim threatens to sue PAS and Harakah

Lawyer Siti Kasim has served a letter of demand against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and the party's organ Harakah Daily for allegedly defaming her.

"My suit against PAS and its mouthpiece (are) for the lies spread to the public on my korban posting.

"Do not allow anyone to bully you," she said in a Facebook posting.

Siti did not reveal the exact offending article, but had on Sept 8 complained about a Harakah Daily story quoting Kedah PAS Muslimat chief Siti Aishah Ghazali.

In the article published on Sept 7, Siti Aishah accused Siti Kasim of ruining the faith of Muslims based on the latter's Facebook posting, in which she spoke about the practice of korban (sacrifice) in Islam.

This was followed by at least four police reports against Siti Kasim by PAS in Terengganu, Perak, Perlis and Kedah.

Siti Kasim claimed Siti Aishah did not check her facts and misconstrued the Facebook posting.

In the letter of demand dated Sept 18, Siti Kasim demanded an unqualified apology within 48 hours from Harakah Daily, and that it be displayed on the top of the portal for seven days.

She also wants Harakah Daily to not publish further defamatory content against her, as well as to pay a "reasonable sum” of damages for injury to her reputation.
