JHO LOW FLITTING BETWEEN CHINA & THAILAND? SOME PEOPLE INCLUDING MALAYSIANS KNOW EXACTLY WHERE JHO LOW IS,’ – MAHATHIR TO NEGOTIATE ‘OFF THE RECORD’ WITH THE COUNTRIES CONCERNED

A NUMBER of people, including Malaysians, know the exact whereabouts of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, says the Prime Minister.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said these people claimed to know where Low, better known as Jho Low, was hiding and what he was up to.

“If you know, please tell us just exactly where. We need to negotiate with the country concerned.

“All these things are (being done) off the record, more or less,” Dr Mahathir told a media conference with the Malaysian and international media at the United Nations headquarters after addressing the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday.

He was asked to elaborate on his earlier remarks that Malaysia was trying to bring back Low from China using private initiatives.

Asked whether Low was definitely in China, Dr Mahathir replied: “We are told that he is in China, among other places.

“He was in Bangkok also, that we were also told.

“But he has the capacity to learn about what action we might take, and he disappears.”

On whether there was a leak in the investigation which enabled Low to keep abreast of developments, Dr Mahathir said: “The authorities are trying to arrest Jho Low but so far they have not succeeded. It’s not that they have not tried, but they have not succeeded.”

Dr Mahathir gave a candid reply when asked how it felt to return to the UNGA after 15 years.

“Strange. I did not think I would be here,” he said, smiling.

Prior to his appearance on Friday, the last time Dr Mahathir addressed the event at the world body was on Sept 25, 2003.
