PETALING JAYA: Umno and PAS may use a common logo in the next general election, in light of their successful cooperation in the recent Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by-elections, reports Sinar Harian.
The Malay-language daily, quoting PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, reported that the matter would be discussed at a joint Umno-PAS consultation committee meeting on Tuesday (Mar 5).
"That is our plan (to use a common logo). The party has authorised me to write to the Umno secretary-general (Tan Sri Annuar Musa) to set up a joint consultation committee," he said in a video recording.
In the video, Takiyuddin was seen meeting with Umno supreme council meeting Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
Sinar Harian also reported that Annuar confirmed that the joint committee would comprise 22 members, 11 each from Umno and PAS.
He said Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who is assuming the duties of the president, will chair the committee, while PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Man Tuan Ibrahim will lead the party in the committee.
He added the meeting would be held at the Barisan Nasional office in PWTC.
Although PAS sat out the Cameron Highland and Semenyih by-elections, its cooperation with Umno helped Barisan win the two seats.
It is also likely that PAS will cooperate with Umno once again in the coming Rantau by-election.- Star
