Libaran, Karambunai joining State-level Unduk Ngadau pageant this year
KOTA KINABALU: Another two districts – Libaran and Karambunai – will join the Unduk Ngadau pageant on May 31, this year, making it a total of 44.
Chairperson of the event, Joanna Datuk Kitingan, said at a press conference yesterday that a total of RM39,400 in cash prizes would be up for grabs during the competition.
The amount excludes other sponsored prizes such as air tickets, trophies and so on, she said.
She added that they were still waiting for feedback from other sponsors.
Aside from the main titles, the State-level Unduk Ngadau title and the runner-ups, there will also be three subsidiary titles – Tati Topiodo, Tati Tosuau and Miss Conservation.
The winners of the subsidiary titles will be revealed during the Sodop Unduk Ngadau on May 29 at the Hongkod Koisaan in Penampang.
Prior to that, there will also be a Sodop Pintutunan on May 27 to introduce all the contestants.
Joanna said that the contestants would be judged according to their beauty, presentation, costume and attitude.
In addition, she said they would also be judged according to their command of their mother tongue and communication skills.
Meanwhile, tickets for the main event are already up for sale. The prices are from RM2,000 per table and RM5,000 per table.
Joanna said that part of the proceeds from the ticket sales would go to SK Magandai in Kota Marudu.
