Personal documents left in lorry leads to arrest of thief
PAPAR: A thief, who accidently left his sling bag containing personal documents inside a three-tonne lorry with stolen furniture, was arrested with two of his accomplices last Thursday.
District police chief DSP George Abd Rakman said the arrests were made following the discovery of a three-tonne lorry with the stolen furniture along Km 5, Papar-Beaufort Road around 2.30am on April 17.
“On that day, a police mobile patrol vehicle spotted a suspicious lorry parked by the roadside with the engine still running.
“As police went to inspect, a man immediately ran out from the vehicle and escaped in the dark.
“Police then checked the lorry and found furniture at the back which we initially believed were stolen items.
“Police also found a sling bag, believed belonging to the suspect, behind the driver’s seat,” he told a press conference at the Papar police headquarters yesterday.
According to George, police investigation revealed that the furniture were stolen from a rented house at Jalan Papar-Beaufort around 1.45am on April 17.
Following continuous investigation, police managed to identify and detain all the three suspects around the district on April 21.
The suspects, all in their 30s, have been remanded for investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
