Latest Android version Nougat rolling out to Nexus devices

The update will see the addition of 72 new emojis. — Google picMOUNTAIN VIEW, Aug 23 — Android just announced on its blog that the latest version of Android, Android 7.0 Nougat will be rolling out soon to Nexus devices.

Calling it its "sweetest release yet", Google said that the new update will reflect input from developers and users the world over. There are over 250 major features in the release, including expanded emoji. 72 new ones have been included to a collection that already exceeds 1,500 in number.

Google has also modified its Quick Settings to allow users to modify the tile locations for shortcuts, including bluetooth, WiFi and other settings.

Apps can also now be have tailored content according to locale settings, allowing, for instance, searches in different languages. The new Nougat will also now feature multitasking upgrades such as multi-window, where two apps can be run side-by-side.

Its Doze battery feature now will put phones into lower power usage mode while on the move and file-based encryption has also been improved.

The phones that will get the new update are the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One) while the upcoming LG V20 will be the first new smartphone that ships with Android Nougat.
