SINGAPORE, Aug 22 — It was an evening of music from bright young things at Victoria Concert Hall on Saturday as classical radio station Symphony 924 held the grand finals of its Young Talents Project.

A total of 10 finalists aged from nine to 16 years old took to the stage to compete for S$12,000 (RM35,725) in cash prizes.

This year’s batch of finalists is also the most diverse to date as an Indian classical vocalist and dizi player were among them.

In the end, it was 16-year-old dizi player Bian Tong who was the grand winner in the senior category while nine-year-old violinist Chloe Chua took the prize in the junior category.

Eleven-year-old violinist Yuri Tanaka and 15-year-old Loi Si Xian received the awards for best stage presence and viewers choice respectively.

Guest-of-honour Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Finance, presented the prizes to the winners.

According to the organisers of the competition, the finalists are judged not only on their technical ability but also on musicality and showmanship. — TODAY
