WHAT SAYS ‘UNCLE NAJIB’ & ‘AUNTY ROSMAH’: JHO LOW TO FACE THE LAW IF DUAL CITIZENSHIP REPORT TRUE – DEPUTY MINISTER

BUSINESSMAN Low Taek Jho will have to face the law if it is true that he has dual citizenship, which is not allowed under the Constitution.

Deputy Foreign Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican said nobody would get special treatment in the matter.

“There is no preferential treatment for anybody. Anyone with dual citizenship will have to face action, according to the law provided by the Constitution.

“We will wait for the report from the custodial ministry, which is the Home Ministry,” he said in Kepala Batas today.

It has been alleged that Low, better known as Jho Low, holds dual citizenship in Malaysia and the Caribbean island of St Kitts and Nevis.

Yesterday, it was reported that the National Registration Department (NRD) was awaiting Wisma Putra’s response to the allegations.

NRD director-general Mohd Yazid Ramli reportedly said his department had written to the Foreign Ministry, seeking information from St Kitts and Nevis.

Low, whose whereabouts is unknown, is closely linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal, which saw billions in funds allegedly siphoned off by certain individuals.

He has denied the claims directed at him.

Opposition leaders had previously challenged the government to cancel Low’s passport to compel him to return to Malaysia to answer the allegations against him.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also deputy prime minister, said Malaysia could strip Low of his citizenship if it was true that he had dual citizenship.
