MACC will not slow down its anti-graft drive, says its chief

The agency will maintain its aggressive approach in fighting corruption although the incidence recorded is showing a downtrend, says Dzulkifli Ahmad.

Dzulkifli-Ahmad-bribe KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission (MACC) will maintain its aggressive approach in fighting corruption although the incidence recorded is showing a downtrend, says its chief commissioner.

“We will not slow down. We have made arrests today; there will be arrests tomorrow. Just wait and see,” said Dzulkifli Ahmad after launching the anti-graft revolution movement and 3J campaign with Mara at the Bandar Tasik Selatan (TBS) Terminal transport hub today.

Dzulkifli urged the Selangor government under menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to sign the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) quickly.

He said all the states had adopted the IBR except for Selangor.

According to him, the pledge was vital to demonstrate the commitment of the government to administer the state free of corruption and abuse of power.

“I am confident that by the end of this year, all government agencies, statutory bodies and ministries would have adopted the IBR,” he added.

Azmin had said recently that his government had yet to sign the IBR because it believed the state’s own measures were more effective in checking corruption than the MACC’s IBR which needed only a vow.

He cited, as example, the state’s practice at the weekly meetings of the Executive Council requiring all parties attending to declare that they or their family members had no interests in any proposals to be discussed and decided on.

“The exco members must sign on every single paper.

“This gives a guarantee and confidence that no exco or their family members have any direct interests in any proposals.”

The practice is also implemented at the board meetings of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).
